New York Musical Festival 2017

In 1961, 400 ordinary people put their lives on the line to bring attention to the injustice of segregation in an action that would show the world an image of the ‘burning bus America’ whose existence most Americans wanted to ignore.

FREEDOM RIDERS tells the true story of the activists who challenged the legality and optics of the Jim Crow South by riding buses in mixed race groups. The musical features Civil Rights icons John Lewis and Diane Nash, famed newspaper editor John Siegenthaler, and the courageous and diverse riders of the Civil Rights Movement.

“Very Accurate. It brought tears to my eyes.”

Congressman John Lewis

“I walked out of the theater with the same feeling I had when I saw Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton for the first time: wanting to immediately listen to the cast recording on repeat.”
