LAMENTATION

June 1, 2020

Lamentation.

That’s the word I’ve been looking for. Lamentation. A deep cry of grief from the heart.

We lament the unfathomable pain of our black friends and co-creators. We lament the deep wounding of African-American fellow citizens.

Again. Again. Again.

And the cold mechanical killing of George Floyd by a police officer makes calm impossible.

Our hope is in the spiritual wisdom expressed by Dr. King, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

Our job is to pray for it, stand up for it, sing out for it, demand it.

For there is no peace without justice.

Black lives matter.
